I’ve always been drawn to the supernatural and the unexplained, and I’m especially intrigued by contemporary stories set in the real world. I enjoy telling tales with a touch of magic to keep the wonder alive and a jolt of thriller to get the blood moving.
Blood Mark had been percolating for years. It was inspired by an NBC TV program called Blind Spot. In the opening scene of that series, Times Square has been cleared and a bomb squad tech approaches an abandoned duffle bag. A woman unzips herself from inside the bag and emerges covered in tattoos. She doesn’t remember who she is or how she got the ink.
That scene stayed with me. I wondered what it might be like to live with markings that weren’t of your choosing. That was the seed for Blood Mark, and I developed it from there, throwing in some Inca myth to give the magical elements a foothold.
I always knew Blood Mark was just the first in what I expected would be three books. The series is now called Dark Dreams. The second Dark Dreams novel is Ghost Mark, and the third book is Scorch Mark. The series is now complete.
A Brief Summary of the Dark Dreams Series:
The Dark Dreams novels are supernatural thrillers. They tell the story of Jane Walker, a woman who was abandoned at birth, bears blood-red birthmarks that snake around her body, and suffers from debilitating nightmares. Jane has known her best friend, Sadie Prescott since they were thirteen, growing up together in the province's care and influenced by the gritty back-alleys of Vancouver’s downtown. Together, they navigate their way out of their downtown rooming house and into a decent apartment in Kitsilano. But there’s no navigating their way out of the supernatural world that Jane’s birthmarks and nightmares have dropped them into.
What if your lifelong curse is the only thing keeping you alive?
Jane Walker survives the back alleys of Vancouver, marked by a chain of blood-red birthmarks that snake around her body. During her tortured nights, she is gripped by agonizing nightmares when she sees into the past. It isn’t until, one-by-one, the marks begin to disappear that she learns the deadly truth: She’s being stalked by a killer, and her marks are the only things keeping her alive.
Jane’s nightmares are back—and this time, they’ve unleashed a brutal killer.
Jane Walker’s nightmares aren’t imaginary—they’re glimpses into the past; and the past can be dangerous, especially when Jane inadvertently reveals her ghost form to a ruthless killer. Now he’s come looking for her and targets the man she loves. Jane must keep one step ahead of this cold-blooded assassin before he gets rid of Ethan permanently. She has one last chance to derail him, but that means taking her most dangerous dream journey yet—one from which she might never awaken.
Jane stands alone between a powerful artifact and the wrong hands.
Unleash the power of dreams in a spine-chilling supernatural thriller as Jane Walker races against time to recover a potent artifact that’s fallen into dangerous hands and convince a skeptical cop of the supernatural forces at play before a lethal chain of events engulfs them all.
