Testimonial for The Gift: Betrayal

November 3, 2016 By JPMcLean 9 Comments

Betrayal Book CoverI’ve received the first testimonial for The Gift: Betrayal, and I’m excited to share it with you.

JP McLean has a style and immediacy of detail that pulls the reader into a complex tale set with all-too-human characters ruled by their extraordinary capabilities. Exciting action and conflict of loyalties make this a fantastic page-turner.

– Kristina Stanley, Bestselling Author of the Stone Mountain Mystery Series.

When an author has a new book coming out, they often ask another author they respect and admire for a testimonial. It’s a small stamp of approval that gives readers confidence that the book is worth their time. Watch this space for another testimonial for the Gift: Betrayal.

Kristina Stanley

Not only is Kristina Stanley a bestselling author, but she and her partners are currently developing software called Feedback (now called Fictionary) that will help authors write better books.

“We’re developing Feedback to help writers create the best possible novel. You’ll be able to use Feedback in several phases of your writing.”– Kristina Stanley

November 15 is the release date for The Gift: Betrayal. It’s available now for preorder in paperback and ebook at all the usual outlets.

Cover Reveal: The Gift: Betrayal

October 30, 2016 By JPMcLean 8 Comments

Betrayal Book CoverIt’s ready, and I’m thrilled to share it with you! The cover reveal: The Gift: Betrayal (Update: in 2019, Lover Betrayed replaced Betrayal). The design by Katarina Meglic, a local graphic designer, matches the mood and style of the other original covers in the series. The cover also recreates the opening scene of the book. Credit and gratitude for the original photographs goes to talented local photographer, Annette Reinhart.

Betrayal is scheduled for release on November 15.

Betrayal is not the next book in the series, chronologically speaking, nor is it the last. It’s a re-telling of the first book, Secret Sky (formerly Awakening), but from Jackson Delaney’s point of view. He was Emelynn Taylor’s love interest in that first book. His role was pivotal, controversial, and demanded to be told.

But don’t worry—I’m not done with Emelynn yet. Her story will continue in books to come.

The following is a short teaser from Lover Betrayed (formerly The Gift: Betrayal).

Vengeance for the Forsaken …

When Jackson Delaney’s wife leaves him for his half-brother and empties their bank account, Jackson seeks revenge to quench the fire in his soul.

But first he has to find them.

Jackson and his wife’s brother put aside their warring motives and join forces to mount a search destined to break laws and test their resolve. And when Jackson meets a mysterious young woman with no knowledge of her arcane and powerful gift, he recklessly lures her into his vengeful mission.

What is Jackson willing to risk? And how much will he lose before he finds his way back home?

Lover Betrayed careens on a high-speed chase, from the gentile character of New Orleans to the rugged beauty of the North American west coast.

Honourable Mention for Awakening!

October 22, 2016 By JPMcLean 10 Comments

Awakening Book CoverPsst? Have you seen the shiny bronze medallion that now graces Awakening’s cover? Last weekend I travelled to the Whistler Writers Festival where the Whistler Independent Book Awards were announced. I’m thrilled to tell you that the judges awarded an Honourable Mention for Awakening. I haven’t stopped grinning since I heard the news.

Here are a few photos from the Festival taken during my wanderings around Whistler Village.

Though it was a soggy weekend, the setting was so beautiful a few drips didn’t ruin a thing. Sadly, my husband suffered a torn Achilles and he’s now in a boot cast, so he was unable to accompany me to the festival. Happily, I was kept company by the terrific writers, readers, and volunteers who make this annual festival a real treat to attend.

(Have I mentioned that I was also kept cozy by the glowing warmth spilling out from the Honourable Mention for Awakening?)

In Lover Betrayed news (formerly The Gift: Betrayal), the manuscript is going through its final edit, the cover is almost done (OMG it’s dark and it’s beautiful) and the book is on track for a November 15 release. I can’t wait to share all of that and more, with you. Stay tuned.

The bones for Lover Betrayed (formerly Betrayal) are buried in Secret Sky (formerly Awakening). If you can’t wait for its release, get your copy of Secret Sky with one click right here. But be careful! I hear it’s addictive.  Or click on the image for more purchase options.

Out of Sync

December 4, 2013 By JPMcLean Leave a Comment

Out of sync

Recently, I paid a visit to the dental hygienist, a lovely woman named Tracy. I’ve been her patient for more years than I care to remember. We chat during those short spurts of time between her scraping my teeth and her sighing with exasperation as she goes in search of more menacing tools.

During one of these short respites, I tell her, “The third book of my series is coming out this week.” I then take the opportunity to lick my lips and soften the stinging cracks that tend to develop when fingers and tools are crammed into my mouth.

That was fast

“Already,” she said. “That was fast.” And then she dove back in with both hands to the musical accompaniment of a Dremel, leaving me to my thoughts.

Already? I wondered. Fast? Those words didn’t fit. It feels like a lifetime ago that I typed The End. I remember how good it felt to finish writing that first draft of the third book. In fact, I wrote a blog post about it, though the memory is fuzzy…possibly because a delicious bottle of Amarone was involved.

And now that I’m into a new writing project, “The End” seems even further back there, so “already” and “fast” are a little disorienting. I’m reminded of the first time you see the spring fashions in the shop windows on store mannequins. You shake your head and shiver thinking of the frost you just stamped off your boots.

I feel like one of those mannequins. I’m out of sync.

If only I could have said “already,” and “that was fast,” when she finally holstered her scary hygienist’s tools. Are you out of sync? Tell me all about it while I go grab some lip balm.

You can order The Gift: Awakening* with one simple click here. Your adventure awaits…buckle up.

*Awakening is now titled Secret Sky
