Testimonial for The Gift: Betrayal

November 3, 2016 By JPMcLean 9 Comments

Betrayal Book CoverI’ve received the first testimonial for The Gift: Betrayal, and I’m excited to share it with you.

JP McLean has a style and immediacy of detail that pulls the reader into a complex tale set with all-too-human characters ruled by their extraordinary capabilities. Exciting action and conflict of loyalties make this a fantastic page-turner.

– Kristina Stanley, Bestselling Author of the Stone Mountain Mystery Series.

When an author has a new book coming out, they often ask another author they respect and admire for a testimonial. It’s a small stamp of approval that gives readers confidence that the book is worth their time. Watch this space for another testimonial for the Gift: Betrayal.

Kristina Stanley

Not only is Kristina Stanley a bestselling author, but she and her partners are currently developing software called Feedback (now called Fictionary) that will help authors write better books.

“We’re developing Feedback to help writers create the best possible novel. You’ll be able to use Feedback in several phases of your writing.”– Kristina Stanley

November 15 is the release date for The Gift: Betrayal. It’s available now for preorder in paperback and ebook at all the usual outlets.

Cover Reveal: The Gift: Betrayal

October 30, 2016 By JPMcLean 8 Comments

Betrayal Book CoverIt’s ready, and I’m thrilled to share it with you! The cover reveal: The Gift: Betrayal (Update: in 2019, Lover Betrayed replaced Betrayal). The design by Katarina Meglic, a local graphic designer, matches the mood and style of the other original covers in the series. The cover also recreates the opening scene of the book. Credit and gratitude for the original photographs goes to talented local photographer, Annette Reinhart.

Betrayal is scheduled for release on November 15.

Betrayal is not the next book in the series, chronologically speaking, nor is it the last. It’s a re-telling of the first book, Secret Sky (formerly Awakening), but from Jackson Delaney’s point of view. He was Emelynn Taylor’s love interest in that first book. His role was pivotal, controversial, and demanded to be told.

But don’t worry—I’m not done with Emelynn yet. Her story will continue in books to come.

The following is a short teaser from Lover Betrayed (formerly The Gift: Betrayal).

Vengeance for the Forsaken …

When Jackson Delaney’s wife leaves him for his half-brother and empties their bank account, Jackson seeks revenge to quench the fire in his soul.

But first he has to find them.

Jackson and his wife’s brother put aside their warring motives and join forces to mount a search destined to break laws and test their resolve. And when Jackson meets a mysterious young woman with no knowledge of her arcane and powerful gift, he recklessly lures her into his vengeful mission.

What is Jackson willing to risk? And how much will he lose before he finds his way back home?

Lover Betrayed careens on a high-speed chase, from the gentile character of New Orleans to the rugged beauty of the North American west coast.

A New Cover for Redemption

January 5, 2016 By JPMcLean 15 Comments

Redemption Book CoverIt gives me tremendous pleasure, on behalf of WindStorm Press, to reveal the new cover for The Gift: Redemption. The Gift Legacy covers are now complete, and I couldn’t be happier with the results.

A big thank you goes to Viona Halim, the digital artist who created the original covers, then patiently tweaked the artwork and re-designed the title treatments, spines, and back covers to produce this new cover. Viona has been part of The Gift Legacy project from the start.

Early on, she captured the dramatic coastal setting and the ominous mood of the books, and she’s been a joy to work with through all the back and forth that such a detailed project entails.

Redemption will return to print and ebook formats in mid-January.

With the editorial review behind me, and The Gift Legacy fresh in my mind, I thought I’d rummage through my notes and start dreaming up story ideas for the next book in the series. This part of the writing process is such fun! Feel free to add your two cents in the comments below. I have a feeling Sebastian will continue to be a thorn in Em’s side, the Tribunal will face new challenges under Mason’s leadership. And I believe Emelynn had some critical decisions to make.

(*Update: Redemption is now Burning Lies)

A dishonourable legacy. A powerful enemy. A future threatened.

While recovering from a psychopath’s savage attack, Emelynn Taylor learns the ugly truth: deceit spawned her gift of flight, and ruthless brutality safeguards it.

But knowing the truth doesn’t prepare Emelynn for the terrorist who rips her world apart. And when the escalating violence spreads to the inner circle of her covert community, Emelynn uncovers a conspiracy that threatens to expose the gift and all those who share it.

Emelynn joins forces with a man she doesn’t trust and a family she doesn’t know to fight a menace that cloaks itself in lies. And when she lands at the feet of a dangerous enemy, Emelynn must face her worst fears to save the people she loves—and she must do it alone.

The third book in The Gift Legacy series, Burning Lies is a thriller that skirts the edges of reality in a world within our own. Step inside and escape the ordinary: take flight with Emelynn Taylor.

Revelation’s New Cover

December 18, 2015 By JPMcLean 8 Comments

Revelation Book CoverThe house is a mess, laundry is piled up, the Christmas wreath is still not hung, but Revelation has a new cover! Viona Halim’s artwork remains front and centre. The new title font for all of The Gift Legacy books is Cinzel.

WindStorm Press reports that Revelation with its new cover will be back in print and e-book on Christmas Eve! (Maybe even sooner?)

(*Update: Revelation is now Hidden Enemy)

A forbidden book. A dangerous secret. A life in the balance.

In the wake of a bullet and a broken heart, Emelynn Taylor learns the true portent of a gift she can barely control. Her discovery of a forbidden book unlocks explosive secrets that connect her to a past she never imagined.

Now someone is threatening to expose those secrets, and an unknown assailant is hunting her. With everyone hiding something, whom can she trust? Emelynn is thrust into the eye of a storm as two powerful factions clash: one ancient, one evil. And both of them want a piece of her.

Knowing that not even her gift of flight will save her, Emelynn forms an uneasy partnership with a dangerous man she must learn to trust—and then she must risk her gift and her future to protect her friends’ lives.

The second book in The Gift Legacy series, Hidden Enemy is a thriller that skirts the edges of reality in a world within our own. Climb aboard and escape the ordinary: take flight with Emelynn Taylor.
