Technical Difficulties

June 29, 2019 By JPMcLean 8 Comments

Tech and I have a difficult relationship.

It thinks I should intuitively know things I do not, and is entirely too smart for its own good. In the past few weeks, it’s tossed three major salvos my way – first, a widget on this website broke, crippling the website. Second, my cellphone had a meltdown. And finally, one of my books on Amazon went on a walkabout. You can’t believe what a headache that caused.

Thankfully, with the assistance of some folks who are smarter than me, a bit of cash, and mind-numbing patience, Tech has been brought to heel. Fingers crossed, it stays in line for a while. The upside to these glitches is that each one forces me to learn something new.

Speaking of learning something new, I’ve now finished both the Facebook and the Amazon components in the Ads for Authors advertising course I’m taking. I’ve not had a lot of success with either platform yet, but I’m working on it.

One thing in particular has become painfully clear – I need more reviews for my books.

Reviews are social proof that my books are worth someone’s time. Reviews are doubly important for indies like me whose name and work isn’t well known.

I would really appreciate it—and it would help me tremendously—if you could leave a review for my book(s). A review doesn’t have to be more than a sentence or two. Perhaps what you liked about the book or who you would recommend it to. You can find some examples here: https://jpmcleanauthor.com/testimonials/

The preferred place to leave a review is on Amazon—they are the major player (by a long shot) in online book sales. (You’ll need an Amazon account and you’ll have to have spent $50 on Amazon in the previous year.) The following links will take you directly to The Gift Legacy’s Amazon review pages:

In Canada:

  1. Secret Sky
  2. Hidden Enemy
  3. Burning Lies
  4. Lethal Waters
  5. Deadly Deception
  6. Wings of Prey
  7. Lover Betrayed

In the USA:

  1. Secret Sky
  2. Hidden Enemy
  3. Burning Lies
  4. Lethal Waters
  5. Deadly Deception
  6. Wings of Prey
  7. Lover Betrayed

If you are unable to leave a review on Amazon, please consider leaving a review on Kobo or Goodreads. I am ever so grateful for your support. Thank you.

And if you’d like to discover a new indie author, there are still a few days left to pick up some great deals in the “Too Good to Miss Urban Fantasy Book Fair.”

🎬 Deadly Deception Cover Reveal

January 2, 2019 By JPMcLean 8 Comments

Party emojiHappy New Year and a Cover Reveal. 2018 has whizzed past and is now in the vault. Is it just me, or are the years speeding up? Before this one gets away on me, let me start it by wishing you a healthy 2019 filled with serenity, laughter and good friends.

The first new book in The Gift Legacy has been a long time coming. Today I’m pleased to reveal the cover for Deadly Deception, which is dropping on January 8th. The cover is designed by JD&J Book Cover Design. Deadly Deception is book 5 in the series. It’s brand new and continues on from book 4, Lethal Waters (formerly titled Penance).

A daring abduction. A sinister plot. A family on the edge of ruin.

Emelynn Taylor races against the clock to rescue a kidnapped newborn, but deception blocks her at every turn. When Emelynn’s lover is the next to disappear, her desperate search uncovers a conspiracy that jeopardizes the freedom of every Flier.

And closer to home, a deeper deception threatens—one that Emelynn has spent her whole life perfecting.

Cover for Deadly DeceptionEarly reviews are in:

Debra Purdy Kong, award-winning author of The Casey Holland Mystery series says, Exposed secrets, hidden enemies, and a new, gut-wrenching reality for Emelynn create a gripping read you won’t want to put down.

Roxy Boroughs, award-winning author of The Psychic Heat series calls it A stellar paranormal—with the heart of a romance and the suspense of a spy novel. J.P. McLean’s series soars.

Ev Bishop, Award-winning author of the River’s Sigh B & B series says it’s A fast-paced, compelling read. Emelynn Taylor is a wonderful heroine—complex, yet easily relatable to, as she continues to come to terms with (and survive!) the mixed blessing of her amazing gift.

Click here to order your copy of Deadly Deception from your favourite retailer. The final new book in the series, Wings of Prey, will be released on January 22. As always, I’d love to hear your feedback. Just hit reply or contact me via the social media buttons.

Release day for The Gift: Betrayal

November 15, 2016 By JPMcLean 9 Comments

Betrayal Book CoverIt’s Release day for The Gift: Betrayal! The latest book in the Gift Legacy leaves home today. It’s interesting how each book crosses that threshold with a personality. The first one, Secret Sky (formerly Awakening), was shy and tentative; Hidden Enemy (formerly Revelation), the second one, sprinted through the gate like a colt on new legs; the third book, Burning Lies (formerly Redemption), pawed the ground then charged off; number four, Lethal Waters (formerly Penance), crept out in the middle of the night. Betrayal swaggers. It’s got attitude.

Chronologically speaking, Betrayal isn’t the “next” book in the Gift Legacy series. It’s more like book 1.5. It’s Awakening Redux—this time told in Jackson Delaney’s voice. This is his story. Jackson was Emelynn Taylor’s love interest in Awakening. He was controversial, his role was pivotal and his story demanded to be told. You may not forgive him, when you turn the last page, but you won’t forget him.

Warning: reading Betrayal will spoil Secret Sky (formerly Awakening) for you. I recommend you read Secret Sky first. Here’s what two of my favourite authors have to say about Betrayal:

JP McLean possesses her own unique gift: the ability to bewitch her readers with her boundless imagination.

– Elinor Florence, Bestselling Author of Bird’s Eye View

Exciting action and conflict of loyalties make this a fantastic page-turner.

– Kristina Stanley, Bestselling Author of the Stone Mountain Mystery Series.

Endorsement for The Gift: Betrayal

November 10, 2016 By JPMcLean 3 Comments

Elinor Florence's testimonial in support of The Gift: BetrayalI’m thrilled to share another endorsement for The Gift: Betrayal. This one is from Globe and Mail and Toronto Star bestselling author Elinor Florence, who is not only a tremendous writer, but also an incredibly dedicated researcher. She honours Canadian veterans, and I’m proud to have her endorsement.

In this riveting recast of events that took place in Awakening, the viewpoint shifts to that of Emelynn Taylor’s first love, the darkly handsome Jackson. He may possess the same mysterious, life-altering gift as Emelynn does, but he has a very different perspective — especially when it comes to affairs of the heart. Author JP McLean possesses her own unique gift: the ability to bewitch her readers with her boundless imagination.”

Elinor’s latest book, My Favourite Veterans: True Stories From World War Two’s Hometown Heroes is a collection of interviews with her favourite WWII veterans. Elinor writes a popular blog, Wartime Wednesdays, in which she shares these interviews, and many more interesting and heart-warming stories. She meticulously researches all of her work. Check it out. You’re sure to learn something new about Canada. Tomorrow is Remembrance Day. Please take a moment from your busy day to remember the men and woman who gave so much to each of us.

November 15 is the release date for The Gift: Betrayal. It’s on preorder right now and will be available in paperback and ebook at all the usual outlets. Watch this space for another endorsement for The Gift: Betrayal coming soon.
