Porch Swing Party

September 9, 2013 By JPMcLean 2 Comments

A book signing on an island as small as Denman is a little like hanging out all afternoon on a covered porch with good friends dropping by to say hello. They stay for a spell and we share a laugh or two over cookies while we catch up on families and gardens, visitors and holidays, and especially how and when we arrived on the island. Local hot topics pop up in conversation as often as marvels at the beautiful weather and the speed at which time flies.

JP McLean signing books at Abraxas BookshopAnd fly, it does . . . it was less than a year ago that the good folks at Abraxas Books hosted the signing of my first book, The Gift: Awakening (now titled Secret Sky). When the second book, The Gift: Revelation (now titled Hidden Enemy), came out, once again, they jumped on board with enthusiasm. Thank you, Juan, Leslie, Corinne and Shaun for your early and continuing support.

And for everyone out there who’s been asking when the third book in the trilogy, The Gift: Redemption (now titled Burning Lies), will be coming out, you won’t have long to wait. I’m working toward a Christmas release and I’ll announce it all right here on my blog and through my newsletter. If you’re not getting my posts by email, click the “follow” button on my blog and you’ll get an email notice every time I post something new. Or sign up for my newsletter and you’ll get free short stories and a notice when a new book is coming out.

Until then, enjoy the spectacular weather, and support the hard-working folks at your local book store.

Book Launched with Limoncello Bubbles

Revelation book launch garden party

Revelation Book Launch

Last Saturday promised and delivered a warm sunny afternoon—perfect for summer dresses, shade trees, long cool drinks, and a book launch. Our neighbour’s beautiful back garden came alive as enthusiastic friends dropped in, lured by whispers of refreshing Limoncello cocktails and tasty treats.

JP McLean at Revelation Book LaunchIn the midst of engaging conversations and summer holiday reminiscing, Revelation was launched. The book took flight, flitting from hand to hand, blushing at the oohs and awes directed at its beautiful cover. Just wait until you read what’s inside, I thought, as copies got tucked under arms and stowed in purses.

All too soon, the afternoon soiree was over and the crowd melted away. The host/hostesses and a few sturdy souls remained as the sun set. We sipped a final Limoncello cocktail and unwound in the glow of a successful launch.

How did I ever get so lucky?

Thanks, from the bottom of my heart, to Elizabeth, Stephen, Colleen, Mark, Galen, Kabir, Griffin, and, as always, John. XO

Book Signing Success

October 21, 2012 By JPMcLean Leave a Comment

This is Abraxas Books in beautiful downtown Denman Island.  Yesterday, Saturday, October 20, 2012, Juan Barker hosted my first book signing for Awakening. Luckily, it was a crisp, dry day and the sun cooperated, peeking out between clouds for the duration.

My gratitude and thanks go out to the incredibly supportive community here on Denman Island and the best friends an author could possibly have.

Comox Valley Record

Thanks to Juan’s advertising efforts, the Comox Valley Record that picked up the book signing’s press release, and the sunshine – the turnout exceeded expectations … by a landslide.  The book signing was a huge success.

Sold Out

Within fifteen minutes, Abraxas’ stock of the book was seriously compromised.  I dashed to my car and grabbed the small supply I had put there in a rather optimistic “just in case” moment the previous night.  But within the hour, we had run out AGAIN and I had to call home for reinforcements.

W O W!

Sold out – twice in one day.  I like the way that sounds!  Thanks again to everyone who dropped by to say hello and show your support.  It warms my heart.
